Have I become one of 'those' moms?

As most of you know, Mom dont read this, C3 is still involved in wrestling..  See previous post regarding not breathing and all :)  Here.   So...He has continued wrestling after getting the Doctor's ok.  it has been difficult for  him to say the least.

He has lost every single match he has participated in.  I call each loss a learning experience.  Every time he has lost, he has learned how to counter a new move.  And each match we (he) tries to do something very specific.  We have been working on Standing up, which he gets a point for and not crying, there should be points awarded for that also.  May be not big in some peoples worlds, but in ours, its huge.  As for the crying thing, I have seen plenty of older kids crying at the end of matches, so it makes me feel a tiny bit better.

So, He has been learning, actually getting some points and having fun?  I don't know, he seems to like it even though he demands we leave and he's quitting after each match.  I don't blame him.  I let him vent then we go buy a Gatorade and get ready for the next one.

As previously stated in my last post about this, link above, this is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.  Console my child, listen to him vent, cry, sob, get angry and then send him back in where in 3 minutes we will do it all over again.  I know..Its what moms do.  We dont let our kids become quitters.  Life is tough...life is not fair...life is hard...you will spend years getting your ass kicked and you will have to still get out of bed each morning and move on.  One day, you will win, when, no one knows, but you dont give up...you keep trying, you never quit, and you play fair....

ahh...here is where I am leading to...playing fair.  People do not always play fair.  Children dont play fair, adults dont play fair, life is not fair.  When we were kids, and we complained that something was unfair our parents told us to suck it up and deal.  Either dont play with that kid or work it out.  I play by that same philosophy.  Life is not fair.  Teachers are not fair, I am not fair..suck it up..deal with it and move one.  Some times there are no solutions...you have to suffer through.

Wrong kid get sent to his/her room, oh well, deal with, life is not fair.
Boss, promotes dude that harvests crops all day...oh well life is not fair
kid next to you graduates first in his class but cheats on every test...oh well....blah blah blah

I am a firm believer that what goes around comes around.  Cheat through life and it will come back and bite you in the ass.  I also believe in letting it go...you got cheated, it sucks, nothing you can do about it? move on.

Now..on to Sundays meet.  C3 had a really good meet last weekend.  Got 9 point his last match and would have won if not for a mistake he made with an illegal hold, not mean, locked his hands, not allowed...and he didn't cry!!!  it was wonderful

So it was a stretch to fit in Sunday's meet as it was the same day we were celebrating my Dad's 70th bday...but I really wanted him to go because he now had a taste of near victory..of something other than being on his back the whole time.

So, his first match...I was close by due to asthma stuff.. He has requested that I be close by but I dont shout out instructions...I'm just there in case he needs me.  His fear of not being able to breath is almost gone.  He has done wonderfully!  I told him that if he gets winded during a match and he's on his stomach (either that or his back is where hs spends all of his time) to take a second and take a break.  Catch his breath...its been awesome for him!

So...his first match...was going good...then next thing I know he's on his back.  No big deal.  He's there a lot, he knows how to get out of it.  its actually very funny.  Kind of three stooges like.  he rolls to his side an starts running in circles on the mat.  Makes me laugh out loud every time he does it!  This time is different though.  All his coach and I can see is the legs of him and the boy.  C3's legs are panicking.  Jumping up and down...he is panicking.  C3 doesn't panic about getting pinned.  He's always getting pinned.

Ref hits the mat calls it a pin.  Boys stand up.  C3 is blue...lips and all..blue...he's holding his nose, mouth wide open half crying half gasping.  I find it odd.. Honestly, the blue thing doesn't bother me.  he will breathe..Its ok.  But its odd.  So, he comes over to me after shaking hands with the kid and the other coach, and he's holding his nose.  I figure he got elbowed in the nose or something like that.  it happens.  We walk off so he can regain in composure.  then I find out that the other boy, while on top of him pinning him, which is difficult for C3 in the first place, breathing thing and getting squished and all, PINCHED HIS NOSE SHUT!

this is the inside of my head after I clarified what C3 just told me  ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME...WHERE IS THAT KID...I'M GOING TO RIP HIS ......etc etc etc.

The the outside of me proceeded to tell C3 how sorry I was that his first opponent was a low down dirty cheater and how proud of him I was for not cheating or resorting to violence against his opponent.

Well, the rest of the day went down hill from there.  His fear of not being able to breath, which was gone, was now back full force.  He basically refused to move the rest of the matches...and I didn't blame him in the least.  He was scared!

Then, I did the mom unthinkable.  On the car ride the way home.  We were discussing his day.  How difficult it was for him, how upsetting it was for him and myself.  That's when I did it.  I told my beautiful good natured red headed little boy, that if anyone every does that to him again, to start beating the shit out of him. To start punching him as fast as he could.  Imagine the dead silence from the back seat.  I explained my reasoning.  It was obvious that C3's coach couldn't see what was going on and the ref was focusing on C3's shoulders and the mat, so he didn't see it either.  Now, if C3 starts punching the kid, the ref will see that or at least the other coach and they will have a fit.  The ref will stop the match to warn C3.  This will then give C3 a chance to tell the ref and his coach what the kid was doing.  I know...tattling is now allowed...WHATEVER.  Then C3 can decide if he wants to continue to wrestle this little shit, or walk over and call him a cheating bastard and forfeit, which I would NOT fault him for!

Yes, I know, I just gone done saying that life is not fair and you cannot quit...which is true, however, this case is different.  He is there to participate in a sport...to participate fairly, to do his best with what he has been taught.

Kids cheat...its not fair, I get that.  However, this kid went beyond cheating.  This kid caused my child to fear for his life.  If you fear for your life, then you had damn well better walk away.

Self preservation my friend.  Trumps all!
